GALLIPOLI

Gallipoli is already beautiful by name: in the entire city, in the port, and on the white seafront one breathes the charm of the Mediterranean. In the old centre, founded on a small island and connected to the new city on the mainland by a bridge, one immerses in the long history of this now world famous city and comes across churches and stylish buildings of rare beauty. Wherever you looks one is struck by the baroque style facades, the richly decorated building entrances, the flowered balconies.

Legend has it that Gallipoli was founded by Idomeneus, the king of Crete, who was driven out by his own people after returning from the Trojan War. Its origins are very ancient: Founded by the Messaps and named Anxa, then by the Magna-Graecia and was renamed "Kalè polis", which means beautiful city. In 265 BC the city was conquered by the Romans, the city is divided in two parts: the village, formed by the new city, and the medieval city, which, contained within the towers, which stands on an island, connected to the mainland since the 9th century AD.
